Frequently Asked Questions

Good questions deserve straight answers.

Here are a few things candidates and organizations ask us before getting started.

What does a political consultant actually do?

A political consultant helps candidates plan, organize, and manage their campaigns. That can mean developing a strategy, building a budget, organizing fundraising efforts, coordinating voter outreach, preparing communications, or managing the day-to-day operation. Not every campaign needs the same level of assistance. We start by understanding what you're trying to accomplish and putting together a practical plan.

When should I hire a political consultant?

Ideally, before you announce. Important decisions about your budget, fundraising, messaging, and overall plan happen before a campaign becomes public. But if you've already announced, it's not too late to get help. We work with campaigns at different stages.

Do I need a consultant for a local election?

Not necessarily. Plenty of local candidates run without professional consultants, especially when they have experienced volunteers. But even a county or municipal election takes real work. Whether a consultant makes sense depends on your race, your budget, and the support you already have.

How much does it cost to work with Red Clay?

It depends on the services and the scope of work. We offer campaign packages as a starting point, along with custom agreements for specific projects and ongoing consulting. We'll discuss your goals and budget before recommending an arrangement. Advertising, printing, and other vendor expenses are separate unless an agreement says otherwise.

Can I hire Red Clay for specific services instead of an entire campaign?

Absolutely. We can help with fundraising planning, voter outreach, strategy, communications, candidate preparation, or event coordination. We can also supplement an existing campaign team rather than replace it.

Who will I work with at Red Clay?

Every client has a designated consultant responsible for the engagement. That may be our founder or another Red Clay consultant. Our consultants manage their relationships within the firm's professional standards and coordinate additional resources when needed.

Are consultations and campaign discussions confidential?

We understand that political campaigns involve sensitive conversations, and we handle inquiries and nonpublic information with discretion. We do not publicly identify prospective clients or discuss their plans without permission, except where disclosure is required by law. Political consulting conversations are not automatically protected by attorney-client privilege, and some campaign relationships or expenses may be publicly reportable.

Does Red Clay work with businesses and organizations outside political campaigns?

Yes. While Republican campaign consulting is central to our work, we're developing a broader practice in government affairs, public affairs, and strategic communications. We evaluate each opportunity based on the work involved, our capabilities, and any applicable legal or regulatory requirements.
